Geography

Director of Studies: Dr Harriet Allen (Girton College)

Course Overview

In addition to the lectures within the Department and supervisions in the College, in St Edmund’s we have Introductory Study Skills Seminars at the start of the year for new students, and College mock exams at the start of Lent term.

Although small in number, St Edmund’s Geographers work in close association with students from Girton College (one of the larger Geography colleges), where there is an active Geographical Society.

The Cambridge Geography Tripos is designed to introduce you to all areas of the subject, including contemporary human, historical, social and cultural, environmental and physical geography. From second year onwards you start to specialise in the areas which interest you most, while maintaining the context of the discipline as a whole.

There is further information about the course on the University and Department webpages.

Entry Requirements

Applications from mature students taking A levels or Access courses are welcome. There are no specific subject requirements for this course. Entry requirements can be found here.

Admissions Assessment

All applicants for the Geography Tripos at St Edmund’s will be required to take an admissions test. This will be a 45 minute test and will either be an essay or a written response to graphical data/a map. You will be registered for the assessment by us if you are invited to interview; candidates do not need to register themselves.
Please note that your performance in the assessment at interview will not be considered in isolation, but will be taken into account alongside the other elements of your application.
