BA History of Art
Director of Study: Dr Anna Gannon

Course Overview

The History of Art department at Cambridge is small, but very lively and friendly. Its mission is to foster and develop academic excellence, to attract students of high academic standards from all backgrounds, and to provide them with quality education both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. These aims are directly mirrored in the ethos of St Edmund’s and its care for its lively and international community. History of Art students at St Edmund’s benefit from the interaction with such diverse and stimulating environment, and although in a minority, contribute to the intellectual and social life of the College. As mature students they are welcome to a very wide range of seminars organised by the College, the Department and the University. They have the advantage of being geographically close to Kettle’s Yard, an institution of the University of Cambridge and a source of inspiration and first-hand interaction with works of art, and to the University Library.

There is further information about the course on the University and Department webpages. In particular, please do watch our course film: https://www.hoart.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate-study-1.

Entry Requirements

The minimum typical offer for History of Art in the English A-Level system is A*AA, with the A* to be in an essay-based subject (and not, for example, in Art and Design). Colleges have power to vary this if particular circumstances merit it, and will also be able to give advice to potential applicants in case of uncertainty as to what comprises an essay-based subject. Applications from mature students taking Access courses are also welcome. A facility with languages would be beneficial for students taking Part One of the Tripos. More information can be found here.

Admissions Assessment

All applicants for the History of Art Tripos at St Edmund’s will be required to take admissions test.  Further information about this will be provided. You will be registered for the assessment by us if you are invited to interview; candidates do not need to register themselves.
Please note that your performance in the assessment at interview will not be considered in isolation, but will be taken into account alongside the other elements of your application.
